Per $100 in philanthropic funding reaches AANHPI communities, despite AANHPIs being the fastest-growing population in the US
When AAPIP was founded in 1990, less than a handful of philanthropic professionals identified as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander, and the needs of AANHPI communities were often ignored, overlooked, and undervalued by mainstream philanthropy. Over the past 36 years, AAPIP has cultivated a robust network of AANHPI philanthropic professionals, co-conspirators, and allies who are committed to mobilizing more philanthropic resources to AANHPI communities and working in solidarity to advance racial justice.
AAPIP's latest research shows that philanthropic funding for AANHPI communities remains just 34 cents for every $100 despite AANHPIs being the fastest-growing population in the United States. AANHPI communities are incredibly diverse, majority immigrant and face a myriad of social and economic issues that remain unaddressed (and, in some cases, are rendered invisible). AAPIP invites philanthropy to reflect on and deepen their racial equity and social justice strategies and practices.
During our time together in Philadelphia, AAPIP will offer spaces for funders to deepen their understanding of AANHPI community priorities and explore the role they can play in supporting AANHPI and cross-racial movements, create connection and build community across the AAPIP national network, and share joy and celebration in the face of the many struggles our communities are grappling with.
Based on past conferences, we project the 2027 Conference will be the biggest stand-alone convening in our history.
