Call for Nominations: 2019 AAPIP Board of Directors

AAPIP seeks 1-2 philanthropic sector leaders to join our Board of Directors for 3-year renewable terms beginning July 1, 2019. We look to you – our national membership and chapter network – to help us identify exceptional candidates who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities!

A diverse, active, and engaged board is critical as AAPIP pursues its mission to expand and mobilize resources for AAPI communities to build a more just and equitable society. Interested candidates must share a commitment to AAPIP’s values and possess previous board and/or other leadership experience. Composed of volunteers from grantmaking institutions and philanthropy-serving organizations, the Board serves as the organization’s governing body, responsible for guiding its mission and vision, along with providing legal and financial oversight.

In 2016, the AAPIP board of directors approved a 5-Year Strategic Plan, 2017-2021 that is currently guiding our organizational and programmatic directions over this multi-year period. This represents an exciting time for AAPIP, and its board, as it looks to the future.  A copy of the Strategic Plan can be seen here: http://bit.ly/AAPIPplan

Our ideal board candidates are senior-level foundation staff or trustees, individual philanthropists and other philanthropy-serving professionals who can contribute to the direction of our efforts. We are specifically seeking leaders with the following expertise, knowledge and traits:

  • Decision-making experience in nonprofit grantmaking, administration and/or nonprofit board service;

  • Professional expertise in one or more key areas such as strategic planning, membership associations, nonprofit finance, policy advocacy and/or community engagement;

  • Leadership and influence in diverse networks that can be leveraged to advance AAPIP’s mission and purposes;

  • Commitment to furthering AAPIP’s impact.

Incoming 2019 board members will serve for a three-year term commencing on July 1, 2019, with the possibility of standing for re-election for an additional three-year term. The board meets quarterly, and all board members are expected to participate in at least one standing or ad hoc sub-committee of the board. Board members are also expected to cover their travel expenses to attend two in-person meetings each year, including one that is scheduled as part of AAPIP’s annual National Network Convening of its membership network.

Submit a nomination today!  http://bit.ly/2019NominationForm

The nominations period is open until 5:00 p.m. PST on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.  Eligible candidates must be a current AAPIP Institutional or Individual Member in good standing. We encourage you to self-nominate and/or refer us to multiple meritorious candidates.

All nominations will be reviewed by the Board Governance Committee and a final slate of nominees, approved by the board, will be placed on the ballot for election. AAPIP voting members will elect new and returning 2019 board members and voting will occur April 1 - 24, 2019. The results will be publicly announced at AAPIP's Annual Membership Meeting in May 2019.

AAPIP is committed to being inclusive of people with disabilities, as well as geographic, racial/ethnic, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation and age diversity at all levels of the organization. For further details, please refer to the AAPIP board member position description below. Any inquiries concerning the nominations process can also be directed to membership [at] aapip.org.
