Job Description

As part of a Client Services team, the Advisor works with individual donors, trusts, corporations, and foundations on their grantmaking and other philanthropic activities. The Advisor also develops client-facing communications, conducts organization and issue area research, participates in coordinating donor briefings and programs as well as represents Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors throughout the nonprofit and business communities. The principal responsibilities include:

+ Research issues, organizations, and projects in order to contribute to grantmaking recommendations regarding clients’ philanthropic contributions.
+ Serve as program officer for all or part of institutional clients’ grantmaking portfolios.
+ Meet with the nonprofit organizations, evaluate reports and funding proposals, attend site visits, research areas of potential interest to donors.
+ Manage grant processes including requesting, collecting, reviewing grant proposals and reports and drafting summaries and recommendations.
+ Prepare, draft, edit, and submit write-ups of proposals/recommendations to clients/donors.
+ Staff (and represent) clients in their philanthropic and civic activities.
+ Represents RPA at professional conferences and programs.
+ Manage grant programs that involve grantee management, advisor and community relationships, event coordination including grantee convenings, client retreats, and client sponsored events.
+ Manage grantmaking portfolios for clients.
+ Assists in coordinating donor briefings and special events.
+ Maintain familiarity with required procedures for major charitable giving vehicles.
+ Participates in outreach and cultivation activities for potential donors and their advisors.
+ Serve on internal committees and participate in local office events.

Job Qualifications

+ BA and graduate or equivalent experience preferred
+ Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the philanthropic or a related field with increasing responsibility and proven effectiveness in working with grantmakers, programs, grantseekers, and non-profit organizations
+ Experience with personal, family, and/or corporate philanthropy
+ Understanding private foundations, donor advised funds, and other giving vehicles
+ An understanding of the broad spectrum of private philanthropy, including trends in giving and key issues
+ Demonstrated ability and interest in working independently with a wide range of issues, as well as the ability to work constructively and creatively as part of a team
+ Commitment to flexible, innovative approaches to philanthropy.
+ Excellent writing and communication skills.
+ Proficiency with office technology platforms including, but not limited to, Word, Acrobat, Excel, Powerpoint, and Zoom as well as grants management software (Fluxx and Foundant) and CRM platforms (Netsuite).
+ Able to handle multiple projects, work independently, work in team environment.
