ABOUT PROTEUS FUND

Proteus Fund partners with foundations, individual donors, activists, advocates, and allies to advance racial, gender, and queer justice as well as an inclusive and representative democracy at the local, state, and national levels. In our 27-year history, we have collaborated in launching many mission-driven initiatives, including Donor Collaboratives, Fiscally Sponsored Projects, and Donor and Group Advised Funds. Along with our innovative and dynamic efforts to change hearts and minds, policy, and law across many movement areas, we also strive to transform and enhance the very nature of U.S. philanthropy.

Proteus Fund and its associated organizations, including our sister organization, Proteus Action League, have distributed more than $220 million in grants to support cutting-edged issue advancement and movement building using strategies and tactics ranging from community organizing, coalition building, and public policy advocacy to narrative and messaging development, multi-layered public education campaigns, and leadership development. Our expertise coupled with our passion have helped identify and act on challenges and opportunities in the field, advance significant movement building, and play a major role in achieving pivotal victories. Today, we are a $40 million predominantly philanthropic organization supporting 24 programs and initiatives.

ABOUT RISE TOGETHER FUND AND RISE ACTION

The RISE Together Fund (RTF) and RISE Together Action Fund support cutting-edge Black/African, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (BAMEMSA) field-led work and bolsters its grantmaking with programming, field building, and technical assistance to build and expand the capacity of the BAMEMSA movement to lead efforts toward racial, gender, and queer justice and a fully inclusive and representative democracy. Since 2008, RTF has funded directly impacted voices to lead policy and social change in BAMEMSA communities. RTF is the first and only national donor collaborative dedicated to bolstering the critical work of BAMEMSA individuals and organizations facing Islamophobia, hate crimes, and xenophobia. RTF is a national grantmaking and field programming entity whose grantees spanned 18 states in 2020. Since 2008, we have granted over $18 million and reached over 500 organizations. Our annual grantmaking budget is approximately $2.2 million.
