Board Member Alice Ito’s remarks on cross-cultural partnerships

At AAPIP’s recent site session to the Amache Internment Camp and the Sand Creek Massacre Site in Colorado, we drew many poignant lessons from linking the experiences of Japanese Americans displaced and interned during World War II and the history of struggle in Native American communities, past and present. Alice Ito, one of our new Board Members and a long-time AAPIP chapter member, was asked to deliver plenary remarks at the Native Philanthropy Institute on April 24th prior to our site session.

The AAPIP/NAP (Native Americans in Philanthropy) site session got off to an inspiring start as almost 40 grantmakers and staff set out for Southeast Colorado on the first leg of a journey that will eventually make its way to Amache Internment Camp and the site of the Sand Creek Massacre.
