Edgar Hopida (he/him/his) is the Communications Director at Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP). Edgar is a seasoned communications leader with 16+ years of experience in social justice nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher learning. His previous work included ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, San Diego City College, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Islamic Society of North America, and the San Diego Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Edgar holds a degree in Sociology from San Diego State University and a certificate in Philanthropic Studies and Nonprofit Management at Indiana University School of Philanthropy through ISNA’s “Young Professionals, Future Philanthropists” program.
In 2017, Edgar was appointed by the Chula Vista Mayor and City Council as Commissioner on the Charter Review Commission. He also recently joined the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America Board of Directors as Co-Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee in 2022.
Edgar is a second-generation Filipino American and a Muslim convert. He currently resides in Chula Vista with his wife and two daughters.
