Briefing Paper on Health Impacts of Criminalization on Asian Pacific American Children, Youth and Families

In California, AAPIs comprise only 3.4% of the prison population, however it is a rapidly growing population, especially among youth offenders. Furthermore, post 9/11 immigration policies as well as increased enforcement of the Illegal Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996 have led to the detention and deportation of thousands of men and boys of South Asian, Muslim, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian descent.

Funded by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation, this project gathers baseline data on the health impacts of criminalization and incarceration on AAPI children, youth and families.
