Project areas
Grants and Foundation funding
- Grant prospecting and research
- Grant writing: developing and submitting applications with Fundraising Committee and/or Project staff
- Supporting grant tracking and reporting
Development Operations (grants tracking and reporting, donor systems, calendars,)
- Support development and maintenance of functional systems and operations– grants tracking systems, contact and donor database, etc
- Support development of database for donor contacts with the Fundraising Committee and ED
- Document and train people to administer and use systems designed.
Grassroots Donors
- Support donor events and communications
- Support grassroots donor engagement and contact management
Communications
- Support Fundraising communications and publicity efforts
- Support creation of organizational/ fundraising materials
MGC Fundraising Committee
- Support MGC’s annual fundraising strategy, fundraising activities and Project events

About the Role
This is not your typical fundraising or admin job. We’re looking for someone who believes resourcing liberation is a form of organizing, and who can hold both the sacred and the strategic. You’ll be working behind the scenes to keep our collective nourished—handling communications with funders, supporting grassroots donor systems, and holding the bones of the back-end so that our community can thrive.
The position will work closely with the Organizational Director (supervisor), and carry out work in support of the MGC Fundraising Team and Project Development staff and and project goals. We don’t expect you to be a professional fundraiser or administrator, but we are looking for someone who is organized, willing to learn and use (or create) systems, and keep track of materials for shared use. We’re looking for someone who is deeply aligned with our values, learns quickly, and cares deeply about this work.
Compensation: Compensation: $10,500 over 15 weeks (Estimated work load and rate: 20 hours/ week for 15 weeks (3 months) @ $30/hour. Estimated workload based on projects assigned every two weeks.)
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, or years work experience in related field and position.
- Current resident of Maui County, Hawai‘i or across the pae’aina remote/ hybrid.
Ideal Qualifications- still apply if you do not meet all these points.
- Previous experience in fundraising, grants writing or development operations (ideal- At least 3 years, but crossover experience welcome!)
- Experience managing sales, fundraising and administrative systems
- Willingness to grassroots fundraise (experience a plus)
- Project or grants management experience
- Writing: grants writing and reporting, grassroots communications
- Experience in working cooperatively on teams and committees
- Experience with grassroots organizations a plus
- Values and Relations:
- Ability and willingness to maintain positive relationships with Maui and greater island community
- Demonstrate a passion for Hawaiian self-determination and community wellness
- Knowledge of and willingness to implement or participate in Hawaiian culture including protocols and practices
Additional Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with the community organizations and stakeholders on Maui Island or across the state
- Familiarity with funders, private foundations and family foundations across the state and in the United States; experience developing a grants portfolio on an issue or set of issues for organization(s)
- Punctual, dependable, self-motivated, and able to collaborate with others
- Able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in a timely manner, including consistent email and phone communication
- Willingness to learn and grow professionally
- Working knowledge of Box, Google Suite and Zoom video conferencing; willingness to learn DonorBox (donor and communications contact management system), and other programs, as needed

Physical and Acuity Requirements
- Talking – must exchange information in person, online, and on the telephone by means of spoken word
- Language & communication skills – Ability to read and write English, analyze and interpret documents, such as staff and client communications, emails, and other documents. Ability to write routine correspondence and routine reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, vendors, government agencies, employees of the organization, and the general public.
- Work Independently – Ability to perform the duties of the position independently.
- Mathematical skills – Key mathematical skills commensurate with the position; adding, subtracting, and multiplying. Ability to complete reports that involve math
- Technology – Ability to type and work on a computer and mobile app(s) including email, texting, software applications, online, and other software as needed. Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Office, Google Docs and similar, Adobe Acrobat, and other applications.
