Six years in the making, we became an official chapter in 2007.  We continue to grow and evolve as a chapter, establishing a strong presence in the Delaware Valley.  We create space for individuals that seek to improve the status of Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the region to connect with other like-minded individuals. Our members come from different areas of the philanthropic and non-profit sectors. Board and staff from public and private grantmaking institutions, as well as nonprofit groups are invited to lend their talent and experience. Individuals providing services to grantmakers or investing in AAPI communities are also encouraged to join.

The Philadelphia Chapter works to:

  • Provide learning opportunities that increase funder education about Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community needs.
  • Promote equity, diversity and leadership in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector.
  • Develop a diverse membership organization of AAPI supporters – foundations, government, funding intermediaries, etc.
  • Look for opportunities and welcome suggestions about ways our chapter can make a greater impact.

  • We began in 2001 as “Friends of AAPIP” when the Council on Foundation’s Annual Conference was held in Philadelphia.
  • For several years we held workshops for nonprofits, funder panels and sessions on evaluation and grantmaking trends in AAPI communities.
  • We officially bacame the AAPIP Philadelphia chapter in 2007.
