AAPIP 2026–2031 Strategic Plan

Only 0.34% of U.S. philanthropic dollars reach AANHPI communities. AAPIP exists to change that.

Our five-year strategic plan sets a clear, accountable direction for how we do it, built from the voices of members, chapter leaders, and partners across the field.

What we’re working toward

A philanthropic sector that recognizes and resources AANHPI communities so they can fully thrive.

A field where AANHPI leaders are equipped, connected, and positioned to influence where philanthropic dollars go.

A movement where AANHPI communities build power in solidarity with other communities of color.

Built from community voice

This plan reflects 30 individual interviews and focus group conversations, 97 survey responses, and a Strategic Planning Committee that included board members, chapter co-chairs, and executive staff. The process was facilitated first in 2023 by Everyday Impact Consulting, paused during our leadership transition, and then completed under Connie Chung Joe with an advisory committee chaired by Don Chen, and facilitated by Estolano Advisors. The Board ratified the plan on May 20, 2026.

Four priorities

Priority 1

Increase AANHPI Community Resources, Visibility, and Power
AAPIP will sharpen its role as the go-to strategic partner on AANHPI issues in philanthropy by convening leaders, shaping discourse, and influencing where resources go.

Target outcome: 20% increase in funder engagement over five years, with the goal of increasing total philanthropic funding directed to AANHPI communities.

Priority 2

Serve as the Definitive Home for AANHPI Leaders in Philanthropy
AAPIP will build and sustain a national network of AANHPI philanthropic leaders who are equipped to influence institutional decision-making and direct resources to their communities.

Target outcome: 15% increase in members contributing to the national network and regional chapters over five years.

Priority 3

Priority 3: Champion Cross-Racial and Cultural Solidarity
AAPIP is committed to building alliances across race. No community gets there alone, our progress has always depended on each other’s.  AANHPI communities are strongest when all communities of color are moving forward together.

Target outcome: Increase in cross-racial programs including shared funding initiatives, joint advocacy campaigns, and policy agendas co-created with affinity partners.

Priority 4

Strengthen Internal Capacity to Maximize Impact
AAPIP will stabilize staffing, diversify revenue, and build the infrastructure needed to scale impact so the organization operates in alignment with its values.

Target outcome: 20% increase in operating budget over five years, scaling capacity at both the national and chapter levels.

Why this matters and why now

AAPIP is the only national philanthropy infrastructure organization working to expand resources, visibility, and power for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. We are also the only national race affinity philanthropic infrastructure organization with an interconnected chapter network with 11 regional chapters across the country.

The 0.34% funding figure is the documented baseline from which this plan measures progress.

The 2026–2031 strategic plan is structured around four priorities with specific, year-over-year measurable outcomes. An implementation plan will follow, assigning accountability across staff and leadership and establishing a regular reporting cadence.

Prioritizing cross-racial solidarity formalizes AAPIP's commitment to building alliances across race, immigration, and democracy building on existing programs including the partnering for the Change Unity Summit, the Racial Equity Advancement and Defense Initiative (READI), and Power in Solidarity: Hawai'i. AAPIP's work advances AANHPI communities in connection with other communities of color, not apart from them.
