Join us for AAPIP’s 2023 Annual Meeting and Network Convening on June 13-14 in the SF Bay Area!
At a time when the expanding philanthropic sector is the most diverse, there is still little recognition of the role that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AA and NH/PIs) play and need to play in successful racial equity strategies. It is time to counteract historic underinvestment in our communities and organize ourselves to effect lasting change in the sector.
Come renew your connections to colleagues while journeying forward through an immersive grounding of how many Asian immigrants were first greeted as newcomers during the Exclusion era; explore themes of detention then and now; preview latest research on the AA and NH/PI nonprofit landscape; participate in timely discussions about building and sustaining racial justice strategies in philanthropy inclusive of AA and NH/PI communities; and much more!
This year, our maximum capacity is very limited! We cap the convening at 150 attendees.
Early Bird Registration for AAPIP Members will be open from March 9 through April 5, 2023. Current AAPIP Members will receive an access code that must be used to access the early bird member rate. After April 5, only general registration tickets will be available.
General registration tickets will open April 6 through May 5, 2023 or until all tickets are sold. General registration tickets will be very limited.
This program schedule is subject to change; registrants will be notified about any major programmatic changes.
AAPIP is partnering with Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation and New Breath Foundation to provide an immersive, full-day program to Angel Island Immigration Station. Many Asian American communities began their migration stories from the West Coast, and some to Angel Island specifically. From 1910-1940, Angel Island was used as a facility for regulating and excluding East Asian, Filipino, and South Asian immigration, and later, as a site for detaining Japanese Americans during World War II. Although Angel Island has since been transformed into a historical site, similar immigration policies and detention centers still exist in the United States, impacting communities from several nations.
The Angel Island Learning Journey is a participatory experience to provide a deep grounding in this history, connect the dots to contemporary issues regarding immigration, detention, deportation, incarceration, and trauma-informed care, and illuminate channels for philanthropic support.

On Wednesday, in partnership with AAPI Data, we will present the latest and largest landscape analysis of AA and NH/PI nonprofit organizations to date, particularly analyzing the impacts of the pandemic on the AA and NH/PI nonprofit ecosystem. This presentation will lead into a lively panel discussion on re-shaping philanthropy at the intersection of identity-focused funds. Within philanthropy, the historic and long-term underinvestment in AA and NH/PI communities alongside Black, Latinx, and Native American communities stands out at the confluence between philanthropy and activism. And as tradition, the convening will also feature AAPIP’s Annual Meeting, recognizing and celebrating board members, chapter leaders, and the expanding AAPIP network at the heart of philanthropic activism.
Schedule:
8:00 AM | Breakfast at The Palace Hotel (2 New Montgomery St, San Francisco, CA 94105)
9:00 AM | Opening Ceremony and Art Performance
10:00 AM | Panel Discussion: The State of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Nonprofit Organizations
11:15 AM | Moving Money for Justice: A Cross-Racial Conversation on Building Power in Philanthropy
12:30 PM | Lunch and AAPIP Annual Meeting
1:30 PM | Conference Ends

We are so excited to be able to gather together in person. To ensure the safety and peace of mind for all attendees, we are implementing a number of protocols to reduce the risks associated with COVID-19. With guidance from the CDC and other public health authorities, we will continue to monitor and if necessary, update our safety precautions. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Vaccination requirements:
All attendees participating in person must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC: “Those who are fully vaccinated have received the second dose in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine primary series or one dose of a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine primary series approved or authorized for use in the United States.” We may ask for proof of vaccination, so you should be prepared to provide it if requested (digital or physical vaccination card). Participants may apply for medical exemptions to the vaccination requirement if needed and will need their medical exemptions to be approved in advance of the event.
Testing requirements:
Testing is not required if you are not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and have not come into contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past ten days. We will have COVID-19 antigen test kits on site for anyone who would like to test as a further precaution.
Do not attend this gathering if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed.
Do not attend this gathering if you are currently experiencing upper respiratory infection symptoms such as sore throat, nasal congestion, cough, fever, and/or chills, even if you test negative for COVID-19 despite having these symptoms as influenza rates are also quite high right now.
Do not attend this gathering if you are on days 0 – 5 of COVID-19 (with day 0 being the day you tested positive or developed symptoms). If you are on days 6 – 10 and antigen test negative you can attend.
Masking requirements:
All attendees are required to wear masks when indoors and when in crowded spaces. Attendees are welcome to mask as they are comfortable when outdoors and not in crowded spaces, and when requested by offsite hosts. N95, KN94, or N95 masks are recommended for COVID protection, and the AAPIP team will have extra masks in case you need one.
