Company Information
In March, when President and CEO Karen McNeil-Miller announced her retirement, the Board of Directors of The Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) pledged stability, continuity, and clear communication throughout this process of finding the next CEO.
Today, CHF is excited to begin the latest phase in that process by announcing the opening for President and CEO.
This opening is a compelling opportunity for a bold leader who will guide CHF as it continues to seek health equity through racial justice, systems change, and service to Colorado’s vibrant and diverse communities.
Since converting to a private foundation in 2016, CHF has prioritized Colorado’s communities who face the most barriers to power, privilege, and income, with a special emphasis on Coloradans of color and rural Coloradans.
While CHF’s core philanthropic tool is granting hundreds of millions of dollars to Colorado nonprofits to support direct service, advocacy, and systems change, CHF also offers a wide range of other resources to build capacity, strengthen community leadership, and support stability and sustainability for the nonprofit community. This shows up through convenings such as the annual Colorado Health Symposium, educating and engaging with policymakers on important issues, and through a wide range of strategic communications efforts like the annual Pulse Poll.
The Board is giving the next CEO a mandate to lead courageously, bring people together to achieve lasting change, lead the 75-person CHF staff, and build on a strong platform to deepen CHF’s impact. The communities CHF serves are not merely grantees—they are partners in changing systems to bring about health equity through racial justice.
The Board believes the next CEO must build and deepen trust and culture, both in communities and with CHF staff, and steward a nearly $3 billion endowment in a way that meets the urgent needs of community today and positions CHF to exist in perpetuity.
Few leaders inherit a platform of this scale, strength, and possibility. With significant financial resources, deep statewide relationships, and a clear commitment to health equity, CHF is positioned to shape the future of health and well-being in Colorado. The next CEO will build on it by earning trust, listening closely, leading with courage and humility, and leveraging CHF’s resources, voice, and influence to deepen its impact and make health more possible for every Coloradan.
