Job Description

The Learning and Evaluation Manager works to understand and address problems and create solutions to reduce Bay Area poverty. The Learning and Evaluation Manager has considerable knowledge in applied research, evaluation, and data analysis methods and experience with the social sector. Learning and Evaluation Manager uses this knowledge and experience to work with Tipping Point’s Program Team and grantees in order to increase Tipping Point and grantee effectiveness, inform grantmaking, and promote policy change. The Learning and EvaluationManager has experience or expertise in one or more of Tipping Point’s four issues areas.

The Learning and Evaluation Manager is on the Impact Team and reports to the Learning and Evaluation Director.

What will you do?

Learning/Research

  • Manages research and learning projects; oversees external partners and researchers; determines scope, deadlines and outcomes.
  • Leverages findings from research and learning projects to inform grantmaking and policy change efforts, in collaboration with the Senior Program Officers for two of Tipping Point’s portfolio areas.
  • Investigates promising programs, solutions to emerging needs, and relevant legislation.

Evaluation

  • Leads measurement of grantee and portfolio performance, capacity building efforts, and policy changes for two of Tipping Point’s portfolio areas.
  • Provides high-quality analytical support and thought partnership to Tipping Point’s Program Team on learning and evaluation issues, such as applied research, performance measurement and data analysis. Reviews and analyzes grantee and due diligence materials; attends grantee meetings.
  • In partnership with the Senior Program Officer and Capacity Building team, provides high-quality support to grantees.
  • Develops portfolio-specific metrics to track grantee performance; finds and/or develops comparable metrics at other organizations to measure the extent of grantee success.
  • In collaboration with the Data Analytics Manager, analyzes grantee performance and portfolio-specific datasets.
  • Conducts analysis using a variety of statistical, graphical and analytical tools.

Communications

  • Serves as a resource for Tipping Point’s communications efforts; provides information on grantee activities, Tipping Point’s investments, and Bay Area poverty.
  • Presents information to external audiences through talks, blog posts, and case studies

Job Qualifications

Additionally, the Learning + Evaluation Manager must have:

  • Significant relevant work experience, with a focus on research, evaluation and/or capacity building in the social-sector.
  • Experience tackling social-sector issues using a mix of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis techniques to assess impact and promote continuous improvement; has a strong understanding of internal and external factors impacting clients’ abilities to create greater impact
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion particularly as it relates to evaluation, grantmaking and organizational culture.
  • Advanced quantitative skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize data; aptitude or experience with statistical, spreadsheet, survey, graphical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Intellectual curiosity, strong analytical and critical thinking skills to work
  • Skilled project manager, able to drive project scope, set and track to timelines, and effectively engage others to make progress, as well as manage across multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Well-developed ability to clearly and effectively express a verbal message to various audiences, and make technical information clear to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships across internal teams, grantees and external partners.
  • Commitment to Tipping Point’s mission and values and ability to operate with the highest degree of integrity in representing the organization.

Salary + Classification

Tipping Point is committed to paying competitive wages. In an effort to increase equity, because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate. We will make our best offer, and it will be the same regardless of the candidate. The annual starting salary for the Learning + Evaluation Manager role is $133,000. This position meets the exemption requirements as defined by state and federal law. Exempt employees are paid on a salaried basis, and their salary is intended to constitute their entire regular compensation, regardless of the number of hours they work; therefore, exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay.

Hybrid Work Environment

Tipping Point is committed to the safety of our staff and to facilitating connection and community with one another. While we were remote for almost two years, we are a highly in-person culture and have moved into a hybrid work environment. While managers have some discretion over the schedule, teams are generally expected to be in person Tuesday-Thursdays. All other days staff may choose to work in the office or remotely. Please note that in a constantly changing environment, Tipping Point may adjust this arrangement as it sees the need to..
