Power in Practice

Four women smile together at an indoor social event. Warm lighting and other attendees are visible in the background.

The only leadership cohort for AANHPI CEOs and trustees in philanthropy.

Power in Practice connects AANHPI foundation leaders through convenings, peer support, and collective action. We build relationships among institutional decision-makers, strengthen pathways to C-suite and trustee positions, and mobilize executive influence to defend race-explicit grantmaking.

What We Do

Community Care
We create spaces where AANHPI CEOs and trustees connect without isolation or tokenization. Through retreats and sessions, leaders process challenges, share strategies, and build sustained peer relationships.

Leadership Pipeline
We support the retention and visibility of AANHPI leaders already serving in C-suite and trustee roles. By creating a collective of executive leaders, we establish visible role models and pathways for future AANHPI leaders to follow.

Collective Learning & Action
We equip leaders with analysis of political and sector shifts, align around advocacy opportunities, and leverage positional power in solidarity with other communities of color. Members coordinate responses to attacks on racial equity and shape philanthropy’s future together.

Why This Matters

AANHPI leaders often navigate executive roles in isolation, facing pressure to depoliticize equity work or become positioned against other communities of color in racial debates. Power in Practice provides the alternative: a solidarity-minded space that affirms AANHPI identity while resisting division.

Following the 2023 Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, 40 AANHPI CEOs and trustees mobilized through Power in Practice to issue a joint statement defending race-conscious practices. That collective action demonstrated what becomes possible when leaders align.

Who We Serve

Power in Practice is designed exclusively for AANHPI chief executives and trustees at philanthropic foundations. Members are institutional decision-makers who influence funding flows, shape equity policies, and hold positional power to advance sector wide change.
