Job Description

As a member of the Donor Marketing and Engagement team, the Stewardship Specialist partners with colleagues across Development to provide project coordination , and execution on stewardship strategies that recognize and retain Earthjustice’s donors. They will work closely with the Associate Director of Stewardship to identify new and creative ways to engage Earthjustice supporters and optimize current stewardship processes and systems. The Specialist is responsible for producing general and highly customized stewardship materials and plans for a range of Earthjustice donors. They will oversee stewardship projects and activities that involve development, communications, and litigation staff, as well as senior leadership, board members, and key volunteers. The Specialist will also serve as a resource to the teams developing and implementing stewardship strategies for mid-level, planned giving, foundations, digital, and public support donors.

The position requires excellent time management, analytical skills, project coordination, diplomacy and discretion, and donor relations skills. The Stewardship Specialist must be able to manage multiple long-term projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and be highly organized.

The Stewardship Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Stewardship. This role can be based in San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL, or remote from the U.S.

Responsibilities

Stewardship Projects

  • In partnership with gift officers, develop stewardship and recognition strategies for select donors, including custom reports, videos, photo books, special invitations, and leadership communications.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage stewardship activities and communications across different audiences.
  • Coordinate with Associate Director and key stakeholders on organization-wide stewardship efforts that span multiple donor segments.
  • Lead the end-of-year stewardship process, production of the Supporter Recognition Booklet, and creation of customized stewardship touchpoints by regularly partnering with fundraisers, program staff, and senior leadership.
  • Ensure details of stewardship activities and plans are documented and communicated to all involved parties, and that plans are entered into the database.
  • Coordinate with the Development Operations team to review and improve stewardship dashboards and reporting.
  • Serve as a resource and thought-partner to the Major Gifts, Foundations, Planned Giving, Mid-level giving, Digital Fundraising and Engagement, and
  • Membership Services teams as needed, as they develop stewardship strategies for their respective donor audiences.
  • In partnership with Associate Director, identify new tools and platforms to optimize the stewardship program in line with best practices, including expanding digital stewardship opportunities.
  • Support efforts to streamline the donor acknowledgment process across giving levels and support Associate Director in the creation and delivery of acknowledgements for Principal Gifts donors.
  • Manage the development and distribution of Earthjustice-branded donor swag and stewardship gifts.
  • Collect and share feedback with stakeholders across Development to evaluate current stewardship offerings and achieve our shared goals of equitable engagement and stewardship activities for all donors.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; and maintaining personal networks.
  • Attend departmental and organizational retreats for shared planning, team building, and professional development.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a donor relations/stewardship capacity.
  • Experience with a fundraising database application required, preferably Blackbaud CRM.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Familiarity with gift acceptance best practices.
  • Self-starter, able to successfully coordinate multifaceted projects, timelines, competing priorities, and duties both independently and in collaboration with other people involved.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow. Experience managing multiple projects at once.
  • Enthusiasm for communicating with donors, prospective donors, board members, and other volunteers as needed.
  • Experience with campaign stewardship preferred.
  • Basic graphic design experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.
  • Salary is dependent on experience and location.

Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $101,300 – $112,500
Salary range in Seattle, WA or Chicago, IL: $96,200 – $106,900
Remote salary for other locations in the U.S. varies: $86,100 – $112,500
