AAPIP is shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor Ed Lee. We send our condolences to his family and the community of San Francisco.

Shortly after becoming the first Asian American mayor of San Francisco, Ed Lee warmly welcomed our national network to the city. In his opening remarks at the AAPIP 2011 National Network Convening, Mayor Lee encouraged the audience to remember that we are not here just for ourselves but that we are here to serve the public, and to understand more deeply “what is beyond the facades.” He reminded us that the struggles of AAPI communities are historically and presently connected to the struggles of other communities of color. Mayor Lee dedicated his life to serving those most in need as a community leader and civil rights lawyer before continuing to advocate as a public servant. Thank you Mayor Lee for your commitment to creating a just and equitable society.
