In the last two weeks over 4,417 votes were cast for our 17 giving circles in AAPIP’s Winner’s Circle Facebook Contest but only three circles rose to the top of the leader board. Congratulations to Viv Ncaus the winner of $3,000 for their justice and peace fund to support murdered Hmong women that are victims of domestic violence to provide a proper burial in their final journey of life. Kabzuag Vaj, co-founder of Viv Ncaus said, “What I’m most proud and excited about is that as a community in the last 2 weeks we thought about ending domestic violence. Let’s keep talking about how we can hold each other accountable for ending violence in our homes and in our community.”
Additional kudos to second place winner ($2,000), Devata Giving Circle, building a generation of fiercely passionate and courageous Cambodian American women leaders and third place winner ($1,000), Pō’aha Giving Circle providing financial support to Native Hawaiian youth and their educational interests.
Three circles may have rose to the top but the real winner of our contest is the idea of using shared giving to change our world. Thank you to all 17 giving circles that participated in the contest, those that cast a vote, answered a poll question and spread the word. You’ve made your voice heard and as a result, an additional $6,000 will serve AAPI communities across the nation.
